Police report two overdoses in a week, one fatal; fire chief highlights Narcan availability

Police Chief Bush told the council the department responded to two overdoses in the city over the past week; one incident resulted in a death and the other was reversed with Narcan.
"We did have 2 ODs in the city. 1 of them was unfortunately a death. The other 1 was a Narcan reversal," Chief Bush said, and asked residents to secure vehicles and valuables after noting an unrelated string of unlocked-car incidents on the north end of Franklin.
Fire Chief Grossman said EMS has seen a "significant decrease" in overdoses over the past year or two and noted University Hospitals, the city's medical control, offers Narcan to the public through programs. Grossman added that, when appropriate, crews can leave Narcan at a residence for family members.
What the council said: Council members thanked the chiefs for the reports, asked for continued public education about Narcan availability, and noted community events (bike rodeo, Special Olympics torch run) at which safety messaging could be reinforced.
Next steps: Public safety leaders will continue outreach; no formal action was taken at the May 11 meeting.
