Viroqua Chamber and Great River Road request modest county support; staff report outreach and programming plans

During the June 6 meeting, the Vernon County Economic Development Committee heard short presentations from local partners and staff updates.
Chris Clemens presented on behalf of the Viroqua Chamber, describing the chamber's purpose and upcoming projects and requesting $1,200 from Vernon County in 2025 to help fund website hosting and maintenance. A Ridges and Rivers Book Fest presentation was deferred to July at the presenter's request.
Sherry Quamme presented for the Mississippi River Parkway Commission/Great River Road and requested $2,000 from Vernon County in 2025 to support the Commission’s travel guide and planned website updates. Karen Dahl said she is collaborating with Quamme on a Pollinator Project and will report further at a later meeting.
Economic Development staff Larkin Breckel reported she has attended professional training and has been meeting stakeholders, chambers and businesses to build awareness about her role and gather needs. Hannah Altimus, UW-Extension Community Development Educator, summarized May activities including the Vernon County Women’s Alliance and a Small Business Workshop and outlined June plans such as an Inventor and Entrepreneur Club focused on green energy, the Thriving Rural Project and a Regional Rural Housing Summit planned for Spring 2025.
No formal votes on the presentation funding requests occurred at the meeting; both presenters were invited to return with additional details at future meetings.
