Harrison Township to pay $116,132 deposit for county road preservation projects on three subdivision streets

Harrison Township trustees voted April 13 to execute a cost-share agreement and pay a $116,132 deposit to the Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) to repave three subdivision streets: Shoreline, Mallast and Ponchartrain.
Supervisor Kenneth Verkest told the board the MCDR Subdivision Preservation Program performs minor repairs and places a new asphalt skin rather than a full rebuild; the improvement is expected to deliver at least 10 years of useful life at a lower cost. The program’s stated cost share is 25%, estimated at less than $1,000 per property in many cases. Informal meetings with homeowners on the three streets were described as well received.
The board authorized executing the 2026 Cost Share Agreement and paying the deposit to move the projects forward.
The deposit and agreement enable county-level work; final project schedules and per-parcel assessment calculations will follow standard county and township procedures.
