Harrison Township OKs Metro Fiber METRO Act permit for underground broadband work

The Board approved a METRO Act permit application from Metro Fiber at its April 13 meeting, allowing the company to install fiber to serve government, education, business and residential customers.
The Clerk said the company prefers underground, front-yard installation unless an impediment requires aerial work; Metro Fiber has already received METRO Act approvals from neighboring communities. The Clerk and Supervisor met with company representatives to review the planned process and timeline. The Township attorney reviewed the application and recommended approval.
The METRO Act creates a standardized permit process and fee structure for telecommunications providers working in public rights-of-way; it limits the township’s discretion on certain aspects of permitting while providing compensation to local governments for use of public space.
Trustees approved the permit application as presented.
The permit approval allows Metro Fiber to proceed with permitting and scheduling installations subject to permit conditions and any required right-of-way coordination.
