Harrison Township approves Aquaeye sonar and two replacement pickup leases for Fire Department

At its April 13 meeting the Harrison Township Board approved two items for the Fire Department: the purchase of a sonar unit to aid water rescues and the replacement of two aging pickup trucks.
Fire Chief Dave Bostater told the Board the department researched products and training and selected the Aquaeye-Fast Sonar System as the most practical tool for the township’s water-rescue operations. The Board approved one unit at a cost of $12,995.00.
The department also recommended replacing two 2021 Ford F-150 pickups based on age and accumulated mileage. After consulting with Enterprise for vehicle-replacement timing and resale estimates for the existing trucks, trustees approved replacement with monthly payments of $840.12 and $865.97; proceeds from sale of the current vehicles will be applied to equity in the new vehicles.
Why it matters: township officials said faster detection of drowning victims can improve survival outcomes, and replacing high-mileage apparatus is intended to reduce long-term fleet maintenance costs.
Both motions carried at the meeting.
