The Marysville City Council presented a certificate of appreciation to long‑time grocer Waleed Baku, honoring 47 years of service to Marysville and surrounding communities.
Mayor Hayman read a citation recounting Baku’s family migration to Marysville in 1979, the family’s early businesses (Marysville Food Center, a Rainbow Foods location later sold to IGA), and the family's later establishment of Wally's Supermarket in 2006. The citation notes that Baku and his family have provided call‑in ordering and delivery services for residents unable to leave their homes and that the family has been a civic mainstay for decades.
Waleed Baku addressed the council briefly, saying, “Thank you ... we love you guys,” and expressed appreciation for the recognition and community support. The mayor and other council members thanked Baku and his family and wished him well in retirement.
The council affixed the city seal on the certificate dated April 2026 and recessed to other business.
