The Marysville City Council on an April evening authorized replacement of the city’s telephone system, approving a Mitel package with a five‑year cost of $39,045.49.
Finance Director and Assistant City Manager Michael Booth told the council the current telephone system, purchased in December 2010, “does not always forward phone calls” and has “crashed at least a couple times,” and therefore needs replacement. He told council that $50,000 was budgeted for the project and that the city solicited four quotes; the Mitel bid was the lowest, with the nearest alternative about $60,008.75 and the highest roughly $109,003.
Booth said the Mitel solution has a year‑one cost of $24,841.33 and a five‑year cost of $39,045.49. When Council members asked about additional or incidental charges, Booth said the packet listed a contingency of about $1,160 and he did not expect further costs. He also said the replacement would cover most city locations — including the library, golf course, public safety, city hall, DPW and water/wastewater facilities — though some alarm lines and other oddities would remain on different connections.
Council member Dunne moved to approve the replacement; Council member Badley seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote recorded at the meeting; the council recorded the motion as approved unanimously.
The council did not set a firm installation timeline during the meeting. Booth indicated funding is available in the current budget and staff will move forward with procurement and scheduling.
