Marysville council approves MDOT performance resolution for Gratiot Road sewer and reconstruction project

The Marysville City Council on March 23 approved a performance resolution authorizing the Michigan Department of Transportation to carry out EPA sewer system improvements and associated roadway work on Gratiot Road.
City Manager Quentin Bishop told the council the project will begin April 20 and run through October on a two-mile stretch from Range Road to the Gratiot turn on Nabuccia. "We are taking 5 lanes down to 2 lanes," Bishop said, and crews will remove concrete in roughly 50-foot sections and move the work zone down the corridor.
Bishop said the city has notified Marysville Public Schools, Bluewater Transit, first responders and other stakeholders. He warned that left turns will become more difficult and that travel and pickup times for residents who rely on dial-a-ride services may change during construction.
During questions from council members, staff said traffic will remain open as two-way traffic in most stretches but that individual intersections may be closed at times; the precise phasing and whether crews will start at the north or south end was not finalized.
Council Member Watson moved to approve the MDOT performance resolution related to the EPA sewer system improvement project; Council Member Shirkey seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Council Member Easter, Council Member Shirkey, Council Member Watson, Mayor Pro Tem Winston and Mayor Hayman as voting yes; the motion passed unanimously.
The resolution covers permitting for construction, operation and use of utilities and related activities within state highway right-of-way and, per staff, also allows the city to proceed with other sewer-related projects under the same authorization. The city said it held a pre-construction meeting to finalize coordination and will communicate timing details to the public before April 20.
