The Board of Trustees approved several policy actions after staff presentations and discussion. Human resources/policy staff (S31) summarized adjustments to transportation‑related policies to expand random drug and alcohol testing to all employees who operate district vehicles. Trustees approved the transportation personnel testing policy by voice vote.
Administrators presented a new student device policy (JICJ) that allows student use of cell phones and smart devices before school, during passing periods, lunch and after school, and allows classroom or activity‑specific use at the discretion of teachers and building administrators. Trustees passed the policy at first reading.
A new policy labeled EJ*** on designated facilities also passed. The policy states that every multiple‑occupancy restroom or changing room owned by Sweetwater County School District #2 will be designated for male or female use; the policy includes language about reasonable accommodations for parents, emergency situations, or when single‑occupancy facilities can be provided. During discussion board members and staff were asked whether the policy aligns with recent state legislation and how the district defines biological sex; staff said the policy references Wyoming statute and that accommodations will be available in specific circumstances.
Trustees also approved a new employee physical ability testing policy for positions with specific physical demands and made other minor policy adjustments to grounds and transportation sections.
Board comments included clarifying how accommodations will be handled and requests to confirm statutory alignment. The policies were adopted by motion and voice vote; staff said building administrators will include disciplinary and procedural details in student handbooks and employee documents where appropriate.
