City OKs FC Cincinnati mini soccer pitch at Bernadette Watkins Park; groundbreaking set for June

The Board authorized an agreement with FC Cincinnati to construct a mini soccer pitch at Bernadette Watkins Park and to partner on programming.
City staff said FC Cincinnati will build the pitch, offer some maintenance support and programing (including clinics), and expects Parks & Rec and local schools to be involved. Staff told the board they are meeting a contractor to begin drainage work and are aiming for a groundbreaking in early June with approximately 30 days of construction so the mini pitch could be ready before July.
Commissioners praised the project as an asset for West Newport and for city parks generally. The board approved the commissioner's order authorizing the mayor to execute the agreement by roll call vote.
