The Chair of the Tipton City Board of Public Works announced that David Maddox has been appointed as the city’s new police chief and said a swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled as a formality.
The announcement came as the Chair also reported that the city’s public safety building has reached a final walk-through stage and is estimated to reach substantial completion on the 15th of the week. “So substantial completion is estimated for the fifteenth of this week,” the Chair said, noting a punch list remains.
The Chair cautioned that a holiday on the state’s gas tax could reduce NVH funding receipts and affect road-repair revenue forecasts. “This is something that Ive chatted with Tammy and Dylan about,” the Chair said. He added that Tipton currently has a positive NVH balance but that continued gas tax changes could draw down cash balances if receipts remain lower.
Why it matters: the public safety building houses police and other emergency services operations; any material drop in gas tax receipts would affect projected local funds available for road maintenance. The board did not take a formal vote on the appointment during this meeting; the Chair described the appointment as announced and said the swearing-in will be scheduled.
Next steps: the Chair said city staff will schedule the swearing-in for Chief Maddox and will continue monitoring state gas-tax developments and their implications for NVH revenues.
