St. Lucie board adopts package of policy amendments covering safety, technology and transportation

On May 12, 2026, the St. Lucie Public Schools board voted 5-0 to adopt proposed amendments to a package of district policies listed by number, following a brief public hearing that produced no public testimony.

Superintendent Prince recommended the board "adopt the proposed amendments to policy number 5514, use of personal transportation devices; policy number 7440.03, small unmanned aircraft systems; policy number 7540.04, staff technology acceptable use and safety; policy numbers 8405, 8406 and 8407 covering school safety, reports of suspicious activity and safe school officers; policy number 8415, emergency and crisis management; policy 8420, emergency management and emergency preparedness and response agencies; policy number 8470, community notification of registered predators and offenders; and policy number 8600 and 8600.04 on transportation and bus operator qualifications" (recommendation as read by Superintendent Prince).

Chair Ingersoll opened the public hearing and, after observing no one step forward to speak, closed it before the board moved to consider the superintendent's recommendation. A board member moved to adopt the proposed amendments and the motion carried by the chair's call: "Those in favor, aye... Those opposed, motion carries 5 0."

The board record lists the affected policies by number but the transcript does not provide the text of the amendments; the board therefore adopted the proposals as presented by staff. No motions or amendments to the package were recorded in the meeting transcript.

The action was procedural and was followed immediately by the special recognitions portion of the agenda.
