Parks & Recreation updates programs and county proclaims National EMS Week; board makes several appointments

Grayson County’s Parks & Recreation director reported March 12 that youth athletics and community programs have expanded, ADA upgrades to park fields are complete, and the department is growing inclusive offerings such as a "Beyond Limits" program for participants with disabilities.
The director said the department supports 226 youth athletes this season, has increased pool bookings and is pursuing bathroom renovations and other facility upgrades. He highlighted recent ADA certification of key fields and said the department hopes to expand swimming lessons and seasonal activities.
The board also read and adopted a proclamation recognizing National Emergency Medical Services Week in May and thanked local EMS and fire providers. An EMS representative provided county response statistics, reporting approximately 293 answered calls across departments, of which 241 were EMS calls and 52 were fire calls, and said about 94 providers currently serve the county with an EMT course underway to recruit additional staff.
In other business the board confirmed appointments to the Community Policy and Management Team and considered a reappointment to the Virginia‑Carolina Water Authority, with motions moved and seconded as recorded. The county administrator gave routine reports on community events, lifting of the burn ban and an upcoming informational session about data centers and regional economic development.
