Garden City DDA forms bylaws review committee, approves sponsorships and hears infrastructure updates

The Garden City Downtown Development Authority voted to form a three-person committee to review and propose updates to its bylaws and approved several small sponsorships and project updates.
Trustee Nasruddin moved, and Trustee Hyder seconded, a motion to assemble a bylaws review committee of three board members to examine the bylaws — last amended in 2016 — and recommend any changes for a future board vote. The committee members named in the motion were Mayor Jacobs, Trustee Peridore and Chairperson Taylor; the board approved the committee.
Staff also presented event and sponsorship items: the board approved a quarter-page DDA sponsorship ad for the Autos for Autism car show at $200 and a $300 sponsorship for the Garden City Police Officers’ annual golf outing. Board members briefly debated whether to increase the ad size to a half page but decided to revisit ad size next year.
In other business, staff reported 36 of 40 hometown-hero banners had been sold and would be installed before Memorial Day and remain through Veterans Day. Staff described lighting repairs completed after a lightning strike that required underground wiring work and noted three new poles are on order to replace poles damaged in winter accidents.
Staff also described planning for a North–South alley resurfacing project behind several downtown businesses; the DDA is waiting on engineering plans and intends to issue a request for proposals for repaving. The city has submitted a SEMCOG grant application to help fund repairs to a northwest parking lot commonly called the Kmart lot and staff said they will seek business contributions to help cover any remaining costs.
Board members asked that the draft master-plan amendment be circulated to the DDA once available and that the committee work proceed without undue delay; the board set July 21 as the next meeting date for follow-up items.
