Laura Sawyer, who founded the nonprofit Let Hope Grow after caregiving for her husband, described forming the organization to provide respite and caregiver support. “My goal is also to help caregivers,” Sawyer said, summarizing the nonprofit’s work to provide respite, trained ALS nursing resources and community support.
The board also presented a 35-year service recognition to Arla Waller, first assistant public defender. Colleagues praised Waller as a mentor and a steady presence in the public defender’s office; Waller said she is grateful for a career in public service and credited department leadership for fostering staff training and development.
Commissioners asked staff to post photos of the proclamation and recognition to the county website and thanked the honorees for their contributions to the community. These acknowledgments were ceremonial and informational; no formal policy action was taken.
