Board approves Kroger signage variances at East Main Street location
Summary

The Lancaster Board of Zoning Appeals approved three Area Variances Oct. 14 allowing Kroger to enlarge two existing wall signs and add one additional wall sign at 1141 East Main St., increasing the parcel’s total signage as described in the application.
Rebecca Green of Sign Vision applied on Kroger’s behalf; Jim McFarland of The Kroger Company presented an updated sign package that includes new graphics and a new walk‑up pharmacy awning. The proposal adds an additional 99 square feet of signage and increases the parcel’s total signage to approximately 1,017 square feet, contrary to some table limits in LCO §1145.06 and §1145.13.
No communications or objections were received from the City, and no public attendees spoke for or against the request. Ms. Bobbitt moved to approve the three Area Variances (58 sq. ft. expansion of existing wall signage, one additional 41 sq. ft. wall sign, and 99 sq. ft. of signage on an interior parcel); Mr. James seconded, and the Board voted unanimously to grant the variances and signed an entry stating the same.
The variances authorize installation as presented; Kroger must follow any permitting or inspection requirements before signage installation proceeds.
