The Meriwether County Board of Commissioners continued a public hearing on closing approximately 3,410 feet of Hausbaugen Road (also called Coney Farm Road) after staff said the request came from a DOT assessment and after at least one adjacent property owner objected.
Staff told the board that letters were sent to adjoining property owners and most departments (fire, sheriff, 911, road department) had no concerns about a closing. A letter was received from Robert T. Lee Todd representing Curtis Whitaker expressing opposition; Miss Todd spoke to the board and said Whitaker uses portions of the road to access tenant houses and would oppose losing access unless he could obtain title to portions of the road so he could maintain it himself.
Commissioners discussed options including barricading and removing the bridge only (leaving the rest of the road available to owners), deeding portions of the road to property owners, and arranging easements to preserve access. A commissioner suggested delaying final action so the parties could negotiate access arrangements; the board voted to continue the public hearing to the June 8 meeting to allow time for affected property owners to coordinate and for staff to return with a plan.
The continuation preserves the public‑hearing record and gives staff and residents an opportunity to propose easement language or partial closures that maintain access for tenants while addressing DOT safety concerns at the bridge.
