Historic Lancaster Commission approves shingle color change at 626 N. Broad, tables two applications

At its Jan. 21 meeting the Historic Lancaster Commission approved a change to the approved shingle color at 626 N. Broad St., administratively approved an all-white vinyl sign downtown and tabled applications for demolition/parking at 955 Lincoln Ave. and window replacement at 214/216 S. Columbus St.
The Historic Lancaster Commission on Jan. 21 approved a shingle-color change for a renovation at 626 N. Broad St. and postponed action on two other applications pending more information. The meeting was called to order at 2:00 PM at City Hall, 104 E. Main St., and adjourned at 2:14 PM.
Commission member Matt Brady moved to approve the shingle color change for CA-00563 at 626 N. Broad St.; Joyce Harvey seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Staff member Andrew Lundell reviewed the file and noted two discrepancies from the commission's prior approval: the window trim had not yet been installed and the shingle color did not match the approved sample. Contractor Josh Debolt said the colonial-style trim installation is pending warmer weather and that the project team selected the "Oakridge/Driftwood" shingle (charcoal gray) "to better match neighboring homes." Resident Charles Williams told the commission the scope includes about 2,500 square feet of shingles.
The commission also approved, via administrative approval, an all-white vinyl sign for a Flower Shop on S. Columbus St. That item was listed under Administrative Approvals and recorded as approved in the minutes.
Two older applications were left on the table. The demolition and parking application for 955 Lincoln Ave. (CA-00552) was tabled at the applicant's request until exterior drawings are completed. Applicant Andrew Mott presented CA-00558 (214/216 S. Columbus St.), saying contractors determined existing wood windows are rotten and proposed vinyl replacements designed to maintain the original appearance. The commission said the submission lacks sufficient detail and requested a specific window model and a cost-comparison between repairing original wood windows versus installing substitute materials; at the applicant's request the matter remains tabled.
The commission set its next regular meeting for Feb. 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM in City Hall. Minutes were submitted by staff member Shannon Seesholtz.
