Commission approves front-door replacement at 129 W. Chestnut St.; decorative trim deferred

The Historic Lancaster Commission unanimously approved March 18 a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace the front door at 129 W. Chestnut St. but deferred a separate request to replace decorative fencing at the building’s parapet until the applicant can provide visual specifications.
Applicant Linda Sheridan told the commission she intends to replace the existing front door with a double-door unit and asked to replace a decorative fencing element with a new trim piece. She did not have photographs or specifications for the proposed trim; the commission agreed to table that portion of the application and asked her to return with examples.
Sheridan said the final door color will either match the building’s existing red brick or be finished in black. Commissioner Debi Stemble moved to approve the front door replacement and the requested paint options (red or black), contingent on the applicant’s final selection; Commissioner Jason Annecy seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
No additional conditions to the door replacement were recorded beyond the applicant’s obligation to supply specifications for the deferred trim and to obtain any other required City permits.
