At its April 9, 2026 meeting the Lancaster Civil Service Commission recorded several unanimous procedural votes and administrative actions and scheduled follow-up work.
Commissioners voted to approve the minutes from the March 5, 2026 meeting after a motion by Commissioner Robert Wolfinger and a second by Commissioner Michael Crites. Secretary Wolfinger then presented the "2025 Annual Report of Activities" that will be submitted to the State of Ohio; the commission approved that report by unanimous vote.
The commission also recorded Mayor Don McDaniel’s proclamation reappointing Commissioner Karen Rotkis to a new six-year term after her prior term expired March 31, 2026; Secretary Wolfinger moved to extend Rotkis’s term through March 31, 2032, with Crites seconding the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Other administrative items included a plan to review and update the Civil Service Commission Rules and Regulations to align with the Ohio Revised Code and city policies; Assistant Law Director Mitch Harden will circulate a draft and the topic will be revisited at the May 5, 2026 meeting. Police Staff Lieutenant Bryan Underwood requested that each of the four candidates from the recent sergeants promotion process receive only their own individual test documents; Secretary Wolfinger agreed to follow up.
Police Chief Nick Snyder announced he will make a presentation to the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police on May 3–4. The commission adjourned at 5:34 PM. The next regular meeting is set for Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 4:45 PM in the 1897 conference room at Lancaster City Hall.
