At a glance: Valdez board elects officers, approves budget amendment and extracurricular contracts

At its meeting the Valdez City School District Board of Education completed routine business including officer elections, consent‑agenda approvals, extracurricular contract approvals, adoption of a meeting schedule for FY26–27 and approval of Budget Amendment No. 9.

- Reorganization: The board held elections for president (nomination: Kaylen King), vice president (Carrie Wade), secretary (Brian Vince) and treasurer (Scott Gombe). The clerk announced the motions passed; the recorded tallies were read aloud by the clerk during the meeting.

- Consent agenda and contracts: Trustee Kathy pulled policy 6155 for separate consideration; the remainder of the consent agenda was moved and approved. The board moved and approved extracurricular and activity contracts after brief discussion about remaining coaching vacancies and the handful of positions still open.

- Meeting schedule: The board approved the FY2026–27 meeting calendar; administrators noted additional policy committee dates were added to accommodate heavier policy work and reminded the board of public‑notice requirements for optional meetings.

- Budget amendment: The board approved Budget Amendment No. 9 for FY26 to close out project accounts before the district audit cycle (July 1). Administrators explained the amendment reallocates long‑held project funds, draws down certain reserves, and applies an ADA account balance toward an elevator project so accounts are balanced for the audit.
