During the third-reading public hearing, the assembly heard limited public comment and several members expressed concern about adopting the budget at the current mill rate without more review. Multiple assembly members recommended a public work session that includes the interim borough manager. The assembly then moved and seconded to postpone adoption of the ordinance until its June 1 meeting; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Members discussed options including cuts to reduce the mill rate and use of general-fund reserves versus increasing the mill rate. The assembly directed the manager to schedule a public budget workshop for May 21 at 4:00 p.m. to review the budget and allow public participation prior to the June meeting.
