On May 14, 2026, the Milwaukee Board of School Directors voted 6-0 to retire to closed session to consider base wage and related compensation adjustments for represented and unrepresented employee groups for fiscal year 2026-27 and to discuss litigation matters.
The special meeting, requested by President Missy Zomber, convened at the Milwaukee Public Schools Administration Building, 5225 West Vliet Street, at 6:30 p.m. President Zomber noted the Pledge of Allegiance had been recited at the prior meeting and made a land-acknowledgment and an equity statement about serving Black students. The board announced interpretation services would be available and that the meeting was being streamed; the board stated it would not accept public comment at this session.
President Zomber asked for a motion to retire to closed session under Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(e) for collective-bargaining deliberations and 19.85(1)(g) for consultation with legal counsel on pending or likely litigation. Director O'Halloran moved the motion; Director Herndon seconded. "I move we retire to closed session pursuant to relevant state statutes," the mover said. The secretary then called the roll for the vote.
Directors Herndon, O'Halloran, Reza, Seemson, Vanoy and President Missy Zomber voted aye. Directors Fonz and Jackson had asked to be excused earlier in the roll call; the board also noted Director Ferguson had requested to be excused. The secretary reported six ayes and declared the motion passed.
The board retired to closed session to deliberate on the announced compensation and litigation matters and may return to this auditorium to take action on items discussed or adjourn from closed session. No schedule for returning to open session was announced at the meeting's close.
