American Indian Parent Committee presents five-goal plan for cultural and academic supports

Shagobe said the plan’s purpose is “laying the foundation for academic success, cultural identity, post secondary preparation, and intercultural awareness.” Jennifer Campo described measurable aims, such as increasing postsecondary enrollment goals by 10 percentage points, implementing quarterly data reviews to align interventions with Minnesota statutes and MCA assessments, and expanding culturally relevant programming including guest elders and traditional practices.
The presenters emphasized that funds from the state program are intended to enhance existing programs rather than replace them, and described tracking mechanisms and family engagement strategies, including integration of the “7 grandfather’s teachings” into social-emotional learning to support identity and belonging. The presentation closed with an invitation for questions and a note that, administratively, the parent committee recommendation will be placed on the consent agenda as part of standard practice.
