Planning staff told the commission the city will launch a temporary road‑diet pilot on North Main Street to test a lane conversion and gauge public response. Nick, planning staff, said public information will be posted and the pilot will run roughly from May 18 through about June 15.
Nick said the pilot will use temporary barricades and signage and that staff will encourage on‑street parking to help simulate the desired conditions. He added the city will conduct a mid‑pilot traffic‑volume study and open a public survey for at least three to four weeks to collect feedback and make adjustments as needed.
Commissioners asked about parking availability and whether crossing guards and police were notified; staff said the police department, public works and crossing guards have been briefed. Staff emphasized the pilot's temporary nature and the plan to adjust barricades and signage in response to initial feedback.
The pilot is tied to staff outreach plans; maps and additional details will be posted online, and staff said they will monitor and report back to the commission after the trial period.
