Resident urges action on leaf removal and broken lamppost at Monroe and Lincoln Way

Dean White, who identified himself as living at 3066 North Highway 35 in La Porte and said he owns three buildings on Lincoln Way, urged the bid board to step up leaf removal and to replace a lamppost at the corner of Monroe and Lincoln Way that was broken in a truck collision more than three years ago.
White said leaves repeatedly pile up on the sidewalk at that corner and clog drains, creating a recurring maintenance issue he has previously raised with city staff. "I've always had to take that out of there myself," he said, adding that the lamppost base is broken and wires had been exposed; temporary measures (a traffic cone, later a metal cap) addressed a safety hazard but did not replace the pole.
The chair thanked White for raising the issues. No formal motion or vote followed during the meeting; staff and council representation were present and board members noted the items for maintenance follow-up and for coordination with the street department and contractors.
White’s request will be considered alongside other routine maintenance and upcoming downtown work, including the Indiana Avenue project that staff plans to circulate to board members ahead of the next meeting.
