Recreation staff said the summer season starts this week, with a T‑ball coaches meeting tomorrow, the beer garden opening next Wednesday and the first summer concert on Thursday, sponsored by Bank 5 9. Staff thanked the bank for its continued support.
Public works staff reported contractor Stark began work on Palmer's Alley, removing asphalt and replacing curb, gutter and sidewalk for a project expected to run into mid‑July. Other street projects (Goodwin, Warren and Haight Street) will be milled and paved on a near‑term schedule. A playground unit at Lammer's has been installed; staff said an ADA ramp and safety surfacing remain before opening.
The fire department reported 117 calls for service last month, noted a full‑time lieutenant out on leave and outlined scheduling adjustments. Assistant Chief Sharp said the department received approval to hold an agency DEA license; the department will complete required documentation and compliance steps and expects a two‑year audit period following formal transfer of controlled substances into agency possession.
The clerk and staff reminded residents about property assessment procedures: about 120 reassessment letters recently mailed, residents can contact the assessor or file paperwork to appear before the board of review scheduled for June 10. The meeting also included a certificate of appreciation to Heartland South principal Dave Risch for assistance in a missing‑child investigation.
Trustees and staff encouraged residents to attend summer programming and to contact the assessor with any questions about reassessments.
