Utility Manager Jeff Shanahan told the council the Unit 7 turbine/generator inspection is a scheduled major overhaul that occurs approximately every 40,000 hours of operation. The city solicited bids, received four responses and recommended HPI as the lowest bidder.
Shanahan said the work will span fiscal years and staff recommended awarding the contract in the amount of $591,604.64. After asking for public comment (none), Councilman Vaughn moved to approve the contract; Councilman Horner seconded and the motion carried 8–0.
Staff indicated the work is needed for continued reliable operation of the baseload generating unit and that it is part of normal utility capital and maintenance planning.
