Board directs study of multiple boundary adjustments, moves three proposals forward for fall review

The Jordan School District board on May 12 reviewed four proposed boundary changes intended to align feeder systems and clarify school assignments for new developments.

Staff described two low-impact adjustments (no current students affected) intended to align high-school and middle-school feeders near the South Valley Regional Airport and in undeveloped southern areas. The board unanimously directed staff to study the airport-area adjustment and report back with maps and next steps.

Two other proposals affect new-developer neighborhoods and would change current student assignments. After debate about notification timing and avoiding repeated re-notifications, the board directed staff to study areas 2 and 3 (vote carried 5–2) and asked staff to prepare options for area 4 so the board can consider a more holistic boundary review.

Board members emphasized that formal notifications to affected families are required by statute and that staff will return with proposed maps in August/September and follow the district’s normal boundary-change process before public notice or surveys. For areas that currently include students, staff said any boundary change would take effect in the 2027 school year and the board would determine whether to require additional surveys.

Next steps: staff will present refined maps and options for the areas studied (airport area; areas 2 and 3; and a detailed option for area 4) in late summer or early fall to start the formal boundary-change timeline.
