Trail group seeks matching funds to update Fairfield Heritage bike path; parks staff to collaborate

Members of the Fairfield Heritage Association told the Lancaster Board of Park Commissioners on Feb. 5 that they have received grant funding to improve the Fairfield Heritage bike trail and are seeking a local match to maximize the award.
Jeff Vandervort and Jim and Peggy Barrett said they would like to widen, stripe and otherwise update the trail—particularly on the west side of Lancaster—and asked Parks staff to help identify additional grants and provide local-match support. Superintendent Steve Gayfield said he works with the city engineer on repairs and improvements and that the association should stay in touch with Parks staff; he also noted that Ohio University–Lancaster funded prior riverbank improvements.
The board did not act on any specific funding request at the meeting; the association said it will coordinate with Parks staff on grant-writing and next steps.
