Parks staff report repairs, program registrations and spring events
Summary

Lancaster Parks & Recreation staff presented routine maintenance, repairs and program updates at the March 5, 2025 Board meeting.
Superintendent Noah Akers and staff reported ongoing work to prepare for the spring and summer seasons: finishing mower and trailer repairs; replacing a pool backflow preventer and pressure relief valve at Miller Pool; purchasing pool and field paint; repairing and prepping floors in the Hunter building for paint; and running security camera cabling at the Community Building. Claypool Electric repaired an underground electric line that operated the Tiki Slide. Staff also serviced equipment used on baseball diamonds.
On programs, staff said soccer registration closed Feb. 28 with close to 650 registered players and flag football registration had 110 registrants. Swim lessons registration was open, and staff were recruiting seasonal pool employees. Parks staff noted coordination with the YMCA for summer swim-team scheduling and partner support for staff in-services. Staff certifications and policy work were also reported (several staff completed ServSafe or Safe Serve-type certifications; pool policy manual updates ongoing).
Upcoming events and outreach listed in Exhibit D include Olivedale senior programs (Medicare fraud seminar; self-defense and senior scam seminars with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office), the Maple Festival (March 8) with a breakfast fundraiser, an indoor rummage sale on April 5, a Euchre tournament on April 12 and a volunteer lunch on April 25, as well as camps and outdoor education programs. Staff also noted a city-level notification that pay ordinance amendments will be on the City Council agenda March 11.
Staff updates were presented for information and routine follow-up; no new policy or significant budgetary action was taken on these items during the meeting.
