Parks board approves purchase of used Ford F-250 to reduce fleet costs

The Lancaster Board of Park Commissioners approved Feb. 5 the purchase of a used 2017 Ford F-250 from the Sanitation Department as a cost-saving measure for the Parks fleet.
Superintendent Steve Gayfield told the board the unbudgeted purchase would reduce costs in the next loan cycle. Gayfield said the truck has roughly 40,000 miles, a reported trade-in value of $18,000 and that a comparable new vehicle would cost about $52,000. Gayfield asked the board for approval to proceed with the purchase.
Bob Lovell moved to approve the purchase and Kari James seconded. The motion passed.
The board did not provide additional financing details during the meeting; staff indicated the purchase would reduce future replacement-cycle costs and will coordinate financing through the city’s normal processes.
