The Assembly of the City and Borough of Sitka moved into executive session on April 21, 2026 to conduct the annual evaluation of Municipal Attorney Rachel Jones, at her request. The assembly voted to enter executive session under statutory categories concerning potential prejudice to an individual’s reputation and potential adverse financial impact and invited Attorney Rachel Jones into the session while excluding the municipal administrator and municipal clerk.
After convening in executive session and later returning to open session, the chair reported that the municipal attorney received an exemplary review and said the assembly would follow up with Jones to negotiate pay and benefits options. Because the attorney's review occurred in executive session at her request, the assembly did not disclose details of the closed discussion in public session.
The chair thanked the attorney for her time and indicated the assembly would reach out to discuss compensation options outside the public meeting.
