Parks staff provided a series of departmental updates at the Jan. 7 meeting, reporting completed projects, recent events, maintenance work and upcoming program schedules.
Project updates included progress at Bowers Park (operating engineers demobilizing; infield excavation delayed by weather) and completion of Elmwood Park’s new playground, which is awaiting final walk‑through and sidewalk pricing before a spring ribbon cutting.
Events updates noted Winterlights had about 2,700 attendees on the first two nights but the last two nights were canceled for safety due to weather, and staff supported Glasstown Countdown and downtown holiday work. Maintenance reports included septic pump replacements at Alley Park lodge, Twin Lakes overflow drain clearance, Cenci Lake shore clearing, HVAC and plumbing maintenance, snow removal and equipment upkeep.
Programs and community items highlighted the printed 2026 Park guide, upcoming Cornhole and Shuffleboard at the Community Building, weekly basketball, a Wednesday Matinee for Olivedale, senior programming (AARP tax help), and volunteer needs for the Maple Tapping Festival on March 14. Olivedale reported 98 attendees for a music bingo event and 123 attendees at a New Year’s Eve event; staff also noted scheduled maintenance that will require the pool to be drained for approximately one week in February.
Staff congratulated Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Shamblin on passing the Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) exam.
