Lancaster parks department reports Bowers Park design underway, swing sets ordered and spring maintenance

At its April 1 meeting the Lancaster parks staff summarized spring maintenance, equipment purchases (including a Kubota RTV), ordered new swing sets for four parks funded through Community Development, and said a LiDAR scan and design work for Bowers Park are in progress.
Department staff presented a broad set of operational and program updates to the Lancaster Board of Park Commissioners on April 1, including capital project work, equipment purchases, maintenance activities and upcoming events.
Superintendent Steve Gayfield reported that a LiDAR scan at Bowers Park is complete and that design work is under way. New swing sets have been ordered for Maher, Hocking, Utica and Glassco Parks; the purchases are funded through Community Development. Staff also reported a recent equipment purchase of a Kubota RTV, funded in part by Friends of Lancaster Parks, and a range of maintenance tasks completed or in progress (pool chemical pump replacements, painting, fence repairs, mowing, and cleanup after high winds and flooding at bike-path underpasses).
Programs and events updates included finalized soccer and flag-football schedules with referee meetings and background checks completed, ongoing adult and youth recreation leagues, Maple Tapping Festival attendance of about 520 visitors and auction proceeds reported from event items, and continuing recruitment and training for summer staff. Volunteers and local organizations (Fairfield Christian Church, Rock Steady Site Services, LYBA) were credited with contributing labor and materials on several projects.
The board also ratified the Parks Department Expense/Revenue Report and voted unanimously to approve payment of department expenses. Members were reminded the next regular meeting is May 6, 2026.
