The Sitka Assembly on April 23 unanimously approved an extension of a lease with the Northern Southeast Regional Aquacultural Association, Inc. for Block 4, Lots 2 and 3 at the Gary Paxson Industrial Park, moving the agreement’s compliance date to Oct. 31, 2026 to allow staff additional time to renegotiate terms.
The motion before the Assembly was moved by an assembly member and seconded; after brief background from staff explaining the extension preserves compliance while negotiations continue, the roll call recorded a 7-0 vote in favor. Scott Wagner, identified as the general manager of NSERA, told the Assembly he appreciated the quick consideration and the additional time to “work through the issues.”
The extension is procedural: it keeps NSERA in compliance while staff and the organization revisit specific lease provisions. The Assembly did not adopt substantive amendments to the lease language at the meeting. The extension will allow staff to return with revised terms for final approval before the new expiration date.
The Assembly’s action on the lease was taken under the meeting’s consent/motion procedures and recorded in the official roll call.
