Poweshiek County approves lease with Sportsman Association so group can seek grants for trap houses

The Poweshiek County Board of Supervisors on May 11 approved a lease with the Poweshiek County Sportsman Association and authorized Chairperson Jason Roudabush to sign, a step county attorneys said is needed for the association to apply for grant funding for additional trap houses.
The lease was the primary substantive item discussed at the board’s regular meeting. Attorney Tom Buchanan told the board the agreement is necessary to support grant applications that would allow the association to add more trap houses to its shooting-range facility. Association representative Steve Glasgow described the various shooting groups that use the range and said those groups follow strict rules and regulations governing operations and safety.
Board members and representatives reviewed a drafted lease and, after discussion, agreed on a final version. Supervisor Jacki Bolen moved to approve the lease; Supervisor Jeff Tindle seconded. The motion carried on a 3-0 vote.
The authorization for Chairperson Jason Roudabush to sign the lease completes the board’s action; the association may now pursue grant opportunities tied to the facility. Several members of the Poweshiek County Sportsman Association attended the meeting, including Steve Glasgow, Kami Holmes, Ryan Miller, Gabe VanLandschoot, Chris Starrett, Seth Holmes, Hunter VanTomme, Alaina Holmes, Nicholas Kenkel and Brian Kenkel.
The board handled other routine business at the same meeting, including approval of a utility permit and a seasonal hire.
