Public Works Director Mark Sealy reported to the assembly April 14 that the department is at roughly 73% of budget spent overall and about 93% of its full-time positions filled, with current vacancies for a contract manager and two building‑maintenance technicians. Seale (transcript spelling varies) said solid-waste contracts typically drive early-year spending and that recent heavy snowfall (about four feet) caused substantial overtime, three short-term snow-removal contracts and extra workload for central garage and equipment repair.
Sealy updated the assembly on capital and maintenance work: the Secureport Terminal project is progressing toward an estimated fall completion; staff have started public outreach for Lake Kincaid Street phase 1 and hope to fund phase 2 in FY27; City Hall HVAC reached substantial completion with minor remaining fan work to be covered by a small follow-on contract; Crescent Harbor high-load-dock and Fishermen’s Wharf projects are in punch-list closeout.
Tony Rosas, manager of Harrigan Centennial Hall, told the assembly his staff are preparing for a busy summer season beginning around May 26, hiring six temporary visitor-desk attendants and four pedestrian-safety attendants, and planning plaza and lobby changes to accommodate visitors and the visitor center. He reported 341 bookings across auditorium and meeting spaces this year, including nonprofit meetings, public events and education programs; Centennial Hall is at about 81% of its FY26 budget so far. Rosas listed upcoming events including the Sea Alaska Summit, music festivals and community education activities.
