Board recommends continuing alternate accountability option for Turlington Alternative School

District staff presented the alternative accountability options for Turlington Alternative School and recommended continuation of the district's current approach.
The presenter (speaker 14) explained that Option B weights student persistence (20%), achievement (20%) and growth (60%) and uses three years of data to account for small enrollments and high turnover. Staff noted that Option B has allowed Turlington to be judged more fairly and that, in 2024–25, Turlington was among the small share of alternative schools to receive a 'progressing' status under the modified model. The board was told the local board must approve the chosen option and submit it to the N.C. DPI Office of Accountability and Testing by Aug. 1, 2026.
