Beaufort County celebrated the new terminal at the Hilton Head Island Airport with a soiree this week and showcased a mural by installation artist Christy Kennard.
Kennard told county television that the mural is inspired by childhood summers in Sea Pines and memories of watching great herons near the lagoon. “They’re massive birds. They’re huge,” she said, describing the heron as a central image in the work. She also recalled riding her bike to Harbour Town and climbing the lighthouse as a child, calling the mural’s installation a “full circle moment.”
The county’s broadcast directed viewers to extended coverage on Beaufort County TV’s YouTube channel for additional footage of the terminal event.
