Residents urge county to press Metroparks on fate of historic Nelson Mosier Road log cabin

During public comment at the May 13 meeting, residents raised alarms about a historic log cabin on Nelson Mosier Road that Metroparks owns and that public commenters say Metroparks intends to sell and move out of the county.
Cindy Mines, who identified herself and her involvement with local historical organizations, asked whether the contractor replacing law-library steps is using historically appropriate materials and then turned to the cabin issue. "This cabin represents the settling of our rural county... they're planning probably to sell it for $10,000 and it'll be taken out of Trumbull County to Amherst," Mines said, urging the board to intervene.
Dennis (Braceville Historical Society) said two proposals were submitted to Metroparks: one from the Braceville Historical Society and one from an Amherst historical group that offered $10,000 and would move the cabin. Commenters said Metroparks had purchased the land in 2017 and that efforts to refurbish the cabin had stalled; they asked whether grants or other avenues could keep the structure in Trumbull County.
Commissioners agreed the issue warranted follow-up. The board asked to invite Metroparks representatives to the next meeting to explain the agency's plans and to explore options to preserve the cabin locally. No county action to alter Metroparks's ownership or the proposed sale was taken at the meeting.
