Hartsville/Trousdale County commission swears in new mayor and commissioners, approves committee appointments

The commission approved Resolution #2014-32-361 to appoint standing committees effective Sept. 1, 2014. The resolution passed on a motion by Phillip Taylor, seconded by Bill Fergusson; the minutes record the outcome simply as "MOTION CARRIED." Appointments to the Urban Services Committee were deferred for later determination because of a three-way tie for two seats.
Chairman Mark Beeler asked the Executive Committee to work with the Board of Education to develop a procedure to select a student representative to serve alongside the county commission. The commission voted to put the steps in place to identify a student representative; Johnny Kerr moved and Carol Pruitt seconded the motion, which the minutes record as carried.
The commission also confirmed several board appointments: the Board of Equalization appointments for two-year terms (Darrell Gross, Eric Holder, Lloyd Butts, Mark Abbotoy) and Planning Commission appointments for four-year terms (Mike Cornwell, Barry Taylor). Motions to approve those appointments were made and seconded and are recorded as carried.
Notary applications for Paula Burton, Debbie Jenkins, Sharon Linville and Cindy Carman Gregory were approved on a motion by Freddie Banks, seconded by Richard Johnson. The meeting concluded when the commission approved a motion to adjourn moved by David Nollner and seconded by Wayne Brown.
The minutes note that Chairman Beeler compared the county fund balance in 2010 to the current balance and commended the commission for fiscal stewardship; the minutes do not provide specific dollar amounts.
