Council to consider renewing contract with Appalachian Mountain Services for delinquent tax collections

At the April 27 work session staff asked the Mayor and Council to consider renewing a contract with Appalachian Mountain Services, Inc., which helps identify owners or heirs of properties delinquent for more than three years, facilitates payment of outstanding taxes when possible and assists with coordinating tax sales at the Gwinnett County Justice Center when there is no response.
Staff explained that the firm is paid only if the City collects taxes through their efforts. If approved by the Council, the contract would take effect May 12, 2026. The Council authorized staff to place the renewal on the May 17 consent agenda for formal consideration.
