The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly voted May 11 to adopt Ordinance 2113, which amends KGBC Title 4 to dedicate the borough’s portion of transient-occupancy tax proceeds collected inside the City of Ketchikan to the local education fund. Finance Director Charlene Thomas told the assembly the redirection was estimated to generate about $423,000.
Assemblymember Arntzen moved the ordinance; Mattson seconded the motion. The roll call vote was 6–0 in favor with one absence.
The action directs staff to reflect the dedicated revenue in upcoming budget documents and routes the funds to the borough’s Local Education Fund to support education-related needs. The change takes effect immediately and borough staff will implement administrative accounting adjustments to allocate receipts accordingly.
