The McAllen City Commission on the dais certified the results of the City of McAllen special election held May 2 to fill the unexpired District 5 seat and adopted Ordinance 2026-46 to formalize the canvas.
Elections staff reported the canvas to the commission, saying Mark Murray received 159 votes, “Michael Falik” received 573 votes, and Feli Davia Bridal received 411 votes. Based on the canvas, staff stated that “Michael Felix” (as declared in the readout) is elected to the city commission for District 5. The commission moved, seconded, and voted to adopt the ordinance certifying the election results.
The ordinance adopting the canvas (Ordinance 2026-46) was presented as the formal mechanism to certify the special election outcome. The commission raised no substantive questions during the canvass and voted to approve the certification on the same day it was presented.
Officials said the certification followed the shorter-election ordinance and applicable provisions of Texas local government law as read into the record by elections staff. The commission’s adoption of Ordinance 2026-46 concludes the local canvass process; the newly certified commissioner will assume the role to fill the unexpired term as recorded in the canvas.
Clarifying details: The transcript contains differing spellings of candidate names in the readout (see clarifying details). The commission’s action was a certification vote; the transcript does not include a roll-call vote with individual commissioner tallies.
