Board adopts modest increases to Truckee Fire mitigation fees

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors on May 12 adopted a resolution to approve the Truckee Fire Protection District’s Capital Improvement Plan and the District’s Mitigation Fee Annual Expenditure Plan for fiscal year 2025‑26, including modest fee increases tied to a construction‑cost index.
Planning staff and Truckee Fire Chief Kevin McKechnie briefed the board that the proposed changes are an inflationary adjustment based on the 20‑city Engineering News‑Record construction cost index. Under the adopted schedule, residential mitigation fees would move from $1.31 to $1.34 per square foot, industrial fees from $0.99 to $1.01 per square foot, commercial/retail from $1.39 to $1.42 per square foot, and office use from $1.98 to $2.02 per square foot.
Chief McKechnie noted the district adopted the fee schedule at a public meeting in March 2026 and asked the board to adopt the county component so the adjusted fees can go into effect. The board heard that the same fee schedule applies across the district—including Placer County and the Town of Truckee—and that the District plans to update its nexus study in the coming year.
There were no members of the public who spoke on the notice hearing. The board voted unanimously on a roll call to adopt the fee adjustments. If adopted, the fee changes will take effect 60 days after the board’s action.
The Chief and planning staff said they will be available to answer follow‑up questions, and staff will return for any required future nexus study updates.
