The Round Rock City Council recognized a group of residents and staff with life‑saving awards after an April 3 pedestrian collision in which bystanders lifted a vehicle and pulled a 22‑year‑old woman to safety.
Lieutenant Angelo Marmarinos of the Round Rock Police Department recounted that officers responded on April 3 at about 5:55 p.m. to a major accident at 281 University Boulevard where a driver unintentionally ran over a pedestrian, who was trapped beneath the vehicle. Marmarinos said community members and first responders lifted the vehicle and removed the victim, identified in remarks as Arianna, who was transported with serious injuries and faces a long recovery.
Arianna, described by Marmarinos as 22 and recently graduated from college, told the council she remembered thinking, “this is how I'm going to die,” and later said she felt she had been given a second chance at life. The council presented life‑saving awards to named individuals including Carla Flores, Chasten Mata, Theodore Wittliff, Chet and Elsa Vranca, Jordan Lupina and city manager Brooks Bennett.
Mayor and council members offered applause and thanks to the awardees and to first responders. No policy action was tied to the recognition; the item was ceremonial and the council moved on with the regular agenda.
