UVALDE CISD board suspends one-year rule, elects president, vice president and secretary

The UVALDE CISD Board of Trustees suspended a one-year service requirement for board officers and elected new leadership at its May meeting.
Following a closed session on legal and personnel matters, a trustee moved to suspend the rule that requires a board member to have served at least one year before holding an officer position. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote after a brief roll call.
The board then opened nominations for president. A trustee nominated Jesse Rizzo, and another trustee nominated themself. After debate the board voted and the nomination of Jesse Rizzo carried. The board subsequently nominated Jacqueline Gonzalez for vice president and Eric Emunoz for secretary; both were confirmed by unanimous voice votes.
Board members said the suspension was necessary because, under current eligibility rules, there were not enough members who met the one‑year requirement to fill officer roles. Trustees also discussed whether the temporary change should be codified in local policy but proceeded with the motions to ensure the board could function immediately.
The votes were voice votes recorded by the presiding officer; no roll-call naming individual votes was included in the public record.
The board moved on to the next agenda items after completing officer elections.
