Committee adopts amendment to honor Vic Fisher, moves HB79 out with zero fiscal note

The Senate Resources Committee adopted an amendment and reported House Bill 79 from committee on May 12. Representative Zach Fields presented HB79, originally proposing that Chute Bay Marine Park be named for Vic Fisher, a figure the sponsor said helped establish early marine parks and planned Valdez’s reconstruction after the 1964 earthquake.
Senator Dunbar offered an amendment (A.1) to apply the honorific to the Institute of Social and Economic Research so the entity could be called the Vic Fisher Institute of Social and Economic Research (allowing retention of the ISER name). The amendment was adopted without objection. Senator Wilikowski then moved that HB79, as amended, be reported from committee with individual recommendations and an attached zero fiscal note; there was no objection and the transmittal documents will be signed at adjournment.
The committee took no public testimony on HB79 in person or online during the hearing. The bill will proceed with the adopted amendment and technical edits to be made by legislative legal staff.
