Gaston County issues May proclamations recognizing ALS, older Americans, foster care, treatment courts and first responders

Among the items read and accepted: a proclamation recognizing May 2026 as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Awareness Month; a proclamation naming May 2026 Older Americans Month with remarks from Karen Creech of the county's adult and aging services; a proclamation recognizing May as Foster Care Awareness Month with remarks from Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services staff; a proclamation acknowledging Treatment Court Month and remarks from the Gaston County Recovery Court coordinator; and recognitions of Law Enforcement Week and Emergency Medical Services Week with remarks from local public-safety representatives.
The proclamations are ceremonial but were used to highlight local services including Meals on Wheels, adult day services, the recovery-court program and public-safety partnerships.
